It's August 6th, 1998... Penteli Mountain, north edge of Athens, Greece...
the time is around 2pm... the last fires are just put out by the Chinook choppers with sea water they are taking from nearby Nea Makri and Rafina...
this is the view from the top of my home...
on the left is where the fires started... somewhere in the lower feet of the mount... and came right down to two blocks ahead of us... and then continued to the observatory seen on top right...
As you can see there are still fumes on the right part of the pics...
...here's the Chinook that puts out the last small fires that were left...
but the most damage was done here... right behind the observatory, there is... hmmm... was... the best scenic road of Penteli... good fresh asphalt, so nice fast turns... and a beautiful GREEN wood surrounding it... A pleasure to all senses...
