ΠΡΟΣΟΧΗ!

whatever I do here, I do on my own motorcycle and I take responsibility for it, my own motorcycle!

If you decide to do something along these lines and break/disarm/annihilate/exterminate your motorcycle, it's totally your own responsibility!

So, as clearly as this can be said: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE for your damages!!!!

Spring 2025

Nushings U-bend!

Some short history first...
Yes, Boring, I know!

Some time ago, in the winter of 2024-25, I decided that my fuel tank needed to be internally refurbished, since the last few years it was showing signs of flaking inside.

What does this mean? It means that the interior protective film applied at the factory inside the metal tank back in 1997 has started to deteriorate and peel off. Small particles would eventually block the fuel finter and if they would get past the filter they would eventually or probably damage the fuel pump and further down the line, the fuel pressure regulator, which we replaced at one time this year as well! I even replaced the fuel injectors this spring, with new ones from the R1200GS!

So, to make a long story short, I found the Tank Clinic shop in Peristeri, and firsst called them on the phone. After that, I visited them with two tanks in the back of my car and gave them to the shop.
What they did was they first cleaned the inside of the fuel tanks completely, then applied their magic whatever formula, supposedly to last another good 20-25 years!
I am saying tanks, and not tank, since my Friend Spyros also decided to do the same thing for his 2000-model R1150GS fuel tank, because it showed an admittedly very smaller amount of flaking and peeling.
This is what it looks like inside the tanks, in grey color...

So, after we did this, we got a John Gemi fuel pump (I think it came from a R1200GS!) and from our friends at Nushings we got the replacement u-bend and some assorted parts to complete the job.

We have used the Nushings brand before: That time we replaced the final drive roller bearings with the Nushings!

We replaced the expensive rubber u-bend (talk about 39 euros) with a stainless steel one made by Nushings!
The original rubber u-bend needs to be replaced every few years, along with the internal fuel lines, as they all deteriorate internally and tiny rubber particles end up in the fuel lines...

See the old one at the left, which I replaced on my own 1100 back in 2022...
Using the Nushings U-Bend there's no need to replace that ever again, hopefully!

The job was quite straightforward to replace all at once: New fuel pump, new fuel filter, SS u-bend.

A closer look of the SS u-bend and all the new parts.

We also replaced the top o-ring and thoroughly cleaned the breather system.

Now there's a R1150GS lowrider!!!!!!!!
