My Skoda Octavia Models!

Since I'm waiting for the real one to arrive by the end of May 2004, I have to do something "Skoda-ish" at home! Besides my 1/10 R/C Octavia WRC, I recently bought five Skoda Octavia models. All are 1:43 scale and come from two manufacturers.

The Red Combi is made by Czech Kaden and I have a few more detailed pics of it here. I bought this one from an english outlet through Ebay.com. From the same company, Kaden, come two more models: The Octavia Kit Car and the WRC car with the Number 11. These two I bought from www.model-car.com

The last two, and the most detailed indeed, are made by IXO Models and I bought them through ebay.com again, from the German site www.rally43.com.

Detailing varies a lot among these models. The Kaden models are a bit toyish, with opening doors and harsher details all around. On both the Kaden Rally Skodas the interior is a fully civilian one: Two front seats, a rear bench with headrests and the civilian model facia! A few decals here and there are positioned in a wrong way, and show slightly out of line. These are also a bit heavier than the IXO models. The IXO models on the other hand sport a fully rally interior, with detailing going down to racing seatbelts and full rollcage showing inside the cabin. All rally models come screwed on a black base and covered with lexan box. The red Combi however comes in a carton box with thin transparent covering, like the Maisto models. The Combi is supposedly made especially for Skoda dealers, and was not originally sold to individuals through model shops. I have seen at my local dealer that they have a shelf with two or three 1/43 scale Superbs and a few Fabias, as well as 1/87 (or something close to that) Fabias and Superbs.

Am I happy with these? You bet I am! I certainly like the models as they are all pretty well detailed, despite the grins, above!

What do they represent:
The Kaden Octavia Kit Car has the names of Pavel Sibera and Petr Gross on it.
The Kaden Octavia WRC is the one Armin Schwarz and M. Hiemer drove in Monte Carlo 2001. (Same details as my 1/10 R/C).
The IXO WRC with No. 12 is the car Bruno Thiry and S. Prevot drove in Monte Carlo 2001.
The IXO WRC with No. 11 is again A. Schwarz's car from Safari 2001 (Notice the air filter snorkel, the higher ground clearance and the smaller wheels).

Checking with the above two companies, among others, you may find quite a few more Rally Octavias, like one driven by Didier Auriol in 2003.
