This is the second and admittedly a little smaller Kouros of Naxos island, located near Melanes village. This one is also made from Naxos marble, and it was also never moved from the site where it was made. However, as the broken right leg shows, someone at some time tried to remove it, but with no success whatsoever.
Yet another small church on top of a cliff, this time just above the village of Moni.
This is the church of Panagia Drossiani, a church whose build time is dated to the early Byzantine years, around 6th to 7th century. The church is located about 5 km from Filoti, and closer to Moni village.
The drawings on the walls are not so well preserved, considering that all sorts of foreigners have set foot on the island, during the island's history. However, there is some good restoration work being done, at the time.
A cup of greek coffee at Filoti was essential!
Memory lane, now.
The cat above, was photographed at a tavern, in Danakos, just 10 km south of Filoti.
The tavern belongs to this man, a close friend of my father, who used to live all his life in Athens. The last 10-15 years, he came back to his home land, and started this tavern. We actually found it by coincidence: It was advertised in a local map. I saw the name, and thought to myself: Can this be my dad's old friend? Let's give him a call. And then a visit!
He loved to see us, as much as we did, and he insisted to give us some things of his own, for my dad. Among olives and onions, he also gave us a small bottle of his very own made wine.
In case you're ever near there, it's worth to taste his home made tastes, as well as his lovely wine and the view down to the sea. The village is built on the steep side of a valley which looks down to the sea, out east.
