July 3, 2003. Furka Joch
On Thursday July 3, we set off early in the morning in a fair-weathered Trento at around 7 am... Our destination is first to join forces with Dieter in Lundeck, Austria, then ride all together to EP8. Upon passing passo Reis, the cold is awesome. Nicola's K1200LT registered a lowly 6*C! We stop at the Italo-Austrian border to dress warm. a little later (much later, I guess, according to Dieter) we meet with him, in the rain... We ride the Furkajoch (low, at 1700m, compared with the Swiss FurkaPASS), then stop for lunch at Landgasthof Schaffe, at Altenstadt, Austria. We continue west, towards RG, through Switzerland, mainly on Route 7, away from Autoroutes. The road leads us to St. Gallen, Zurich, Basel, a brief blast of German Autobahn, Mulhouse, RG.
