Taxenbach to Tovena (369km)

This would be one of our longest days! 369km's in almost 13 hours. Actually, we left at around 10 am, heading south. We stopped for a cup of coffee at Bad Gastein (expensive and... rainy!), then took a ride on the 15 minute train to pass under Tauern mountain.

Luckily, there was no more rain to slow our progress... Despite the fine weather, we were still a lot behind schedule. So we really tried to speed up things a little, always avoiding autostradas as much as possible (not that there were any, in that area, anyway!), through lovely valleys in Austria first, then in Northern Italy.

Some late night fun and games at the lovely playroom of the Gasthof at Taxenbach.

A very nice place indeed! It's called Niederhof and belongs to family Radacher. Ask to try their lovely schnaps!

We stopped briefly at Bad Gastein, but rain was following us, once again!

Then we decided to get out of the rain fast!

We took the train through Tauernschlause and thankfully there was no rain on the other side of the Tauern mountain!

As luck would have it, however, George managed to boil his rear brake during a very steep downhill pass... somewhere in Italy, finally, and after Nassfeld Pass... I'm sorry I cannot recall the passo's name!

Night was falling quickly... At some place after Tolmezzo, and while we were heading west towards Belluno, we stopped to catch a breath...

Day 7: Tovena to Venezia.
